Physio Newtown is (from our research) one of the most common searches our patient's use to find us, followed by Physiotherapist Newtown and interestingly, Physiotherapy Newtown. Patients often search us by suburb first, however, and as a result, some other typical searches include Newtown Physio, Newtown Physiotherapist and or Newtown Physiotherapy. Though not a direct variation to the two above, a broader approach is often taken with a search like; physio near me, or if a practice is more intended then physiotherapy near me is quite often the search. We have found that depending on the demographics the use of the word 'in' features quite heavily, and so we'll often see Physio in Newtown, Physiotherapist in Newtown and Physiotherapy in Newtown as common phrases. In the end, we do our best to be as visible and accessible for our patients in and around our local area as possible.
Newton is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales and is located just 4 kilometres south-west of the Sydney CBD. It is under the local government areas of the City of Sydney and Inner West Council.
Spanning 1.6km2 in total land area, the suburb is home to 15,029 residents according to the 2016 census. Newtown is bordered by the Stanmore, Camperdown, Darlington, Enmore, Erskineville, Marrickville, St Peters and Alexandria suburbs.
Newtown was established in 1812 as a residential and farming area. It’s first inhabitants, however, were the Cadigal tribe of the Eora people. The suburb got its official name after a grocery store that opened in the suburb in 1832.
In 1848, a part of the suburb was acquired by the Sydney Church of England to build a general cemetery called Camperdown Cemetery at the boundary of Sydney. This cemetery became a vital part of the suburb as it saw 15,000 burials from people all over Sydney, where its peak was during a measles epidemic. There are also notable individuals buried in the cemetery, which include Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell, Major Edmund Lockyer and Eliza Emily Donnithorne. The graveyard also became the central green space of the suburb.
