About Health Alliance Movement Glebe

The Health Alliance Movement Glebe is a physiotherapy clinic dedicated to fostering a holistic approach for every individual. We aim to create a continuum from exploring and treating the root cause of a disease or condition and progress you through to become a better version of yourself. We believe that activity and social interaction is key to our well-being, and we’re here to help you find that key.

Although it may sound like a mouthful, the Health Alliance Movement stands for the importance we place on movement and the value of education, community and exploration.

Movement is at the core of how we function in this world. From the macroscopic movement of how we interact with our environment in the form of structured exercise, activities of daily living or occupational demands to the microscopic movement of physiological processes that may be influenced again by such things as nutrition, sleep, stress and mental emotional well-being.

Clinic tag-line / mission statement

An integrated clinic of physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, trainers, coaches and dance teachers that can tailor programs to your goals and interests. We are evidence-based and sustainably-minded in our approach to every treatment session.

What makes Health Alliance Movement Glebe unique

Our clinic is a place for the community to come and receive treatment for a variety of conditions from physiotherapists and exercise physiologists but also participate in group exercise classes, dance programs from chronic pain, arthritis, diabetes etc and other health workshops and educational events. Our practitioners have advanced training in health and exercise coaching, clinical assessments and are completing their PhDs and as such have a strong grasp in what treatments are best supported by current research.

Q&A with Benjamin Hickman

What made you decide to become a physiotherapist?

I wanted to help people function better in their working and sporting life. My focus has shifted recently into helping people manage their chronic pain as this is something that is common and affects the lives of so many people within our community. Sometimes the benefits of what we do aren't as obvious as we may think, but I see people improve in many different areas of their life after our sessions, and that's the beauty of what I do!

What do you love most about your job?

I love helping people move better and function better within their world. Whether this is in a sporting, dance, working, family, or exercising context, to see changes happen over time brings me great joy.

Why should a new patient decide to choose you?

New patients should choose me because I start with a very generalist approach to your overall health. I will look at your physical ability, your daily and life stressors, your knowledge around how you manage your condition and what factors play a part in your health journey. From here we can build a program that is tailored to you. This may include any hands on massage or mobilisations, exercises individually or in a class, recommendations for general health and stress management and an individualised home exercise program that addresses any issues we may have found. I believe none of us are born broken nor in need of fixing, rather we require the awareness, education and opportunity to change. The potential of the human body to heal and circumvent issues is powerful and something that may require more attention at certain points in your life.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?

I enjoy partner dancing in my spare time. I perform a style called Kizomba that is a great way to meet people and connect to the greater community. I also go to the Crossfit gym attached downstairs at our clinic where again there's a great culture and camaraderie between the members. I also enjoy the usual activities in nature such as bushwalks, ocean swims etc.

What do you enjoy about Glebe and the community?

I love the Glebe community, there's such a strong sense of unity snd friendliness that I don't find elsewhere. So living and working in this area really gives me to opportunity to see people in the context of their day to day life. Also community events and classes are such a great way to explore different activities that I normally wouldn't try.

Find us online

Physio Glebe is (from our research) one of the most common searches our patient's use to find us, followed by Physiotherapist Glebe and interestingly, Physiotherapy Glebe. Patients often search us by suburb first, however, and as a result, some other typical searches include Glebe Physio, Glebe Physiotherapist and or Glebe Physiotherapy. Though not a direct variation to the two above, a broader approach is often taken with a search like; physio near me, or if a practice is more intended then physiotherapy near me is quite often the search. We have found that depending on the demographics the use of the word 'in' features quite heavily, and so we'll often see Physio in Glebe, Physiotherapist in Glebe and Physiotherapy in Glebe as common phrases. In the end, we do our best to be as visible and accessible for our patients in and around our local area as possible.
