Annandale, located in the inner West of Sydney, is a suburb in the Australian state of New South Wales. Its surrounding suburbs include Lilyfield, Rozelle, Glebe, Leichhardt, Petersham, Camperdown, and Stanmore. The area is within the local government area of Inner West Council.

Annandale lies 5 kilometres from Sydney CBD towards its western side. The northern end of the suburb is situated on Rozelle Bay on Sydney Harbour. To the east of Annandale lies Glebe, to its west is Leichhardt and Lilyfield, and to its south lies Stanmore and Camperdown.

Environment-wise, the suburb is bordered by Johnston Creek towards the east, in the west lies White’s Creek, and on the northern side, there is Sydney Harbour.

History of Annandale

The area was initially named Johnston’s Bush after Major George Johnston, who brought convicts from England to Australia. He was given a piece of land of about 600 acres in a region between Annandale and Stanmore. Later, Johnston renamed the suburb as Annandale.
