Physio Kew is (from our research) one of the most common searches our patient's use to find us, followed by Physiotherapist Kew and interestingly, Physiotherapy Kew. Patients often search us by suburb first, however, and as a result, some other typical searches include Kew Physio, Kew Physiotherapist and or Kew Physiotherapy. Though not a direct variation to the two above, a broader approach is often taken with a search like; physio near me, or if a practice is more intended then physiotherapy near me is quite often the search. We have found that depending on the demographics the use of the word 'in' features quite heavily, and so we'll often see Physio in Kew, Physiotherapist in Kew and Physiotherapy in Kew as common phrases. In the end, we do our best to be as visible and accessible for our patients in and around our local area as possible.
A quiet and peaceful community, Kew is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. It is located 5 kilometres east of the Melbourne CBD and is in the local government area of the City of Boroondara.
The suburb has a total land area of 10.5 km2 with a population of 24,605, based on the 2016 census. The suburbs neighbouring Kew are Alphington, Kew East, Balwyn North, Fairfield, Balwyn, Abbotsford, Hawthorn and Hawthorn East.
Before the arrival of European settlers, the first inhabitants of Kew were the Wurundjeir peoples. Kew was initially called as Parish of Boroondara, which means “a place of shade”.
In 1840, a three-storey water-powered mill opened in the suburb. Also in the same year, Australian politician John Hodgson established squatters run at Studley Park.
Around the 1850s, Crown land sales happened in the area. One of the land buyers, Nicholas Fenwick, subdivided his estate and named the region Kew, after a district in England. Fenwick also notably named the streets in Kew after British statemen. Kew then became a sought-after area for the wealthier residents of Melbourne. In the 1870s, the historic Raheen mansion was built. It is now recognised as one of the most beautiful homes in Melbourne.
It was also during the 19th century when the commercial precinct in the area, called Kew Junction, began to take shape. A post office, shops, hotels, civic buildings, churches and schools were established in Kew in the next few decades.
Today, Kew continues to steadily progress since the opening of the early Bridge Road crossing in the 1850s.
Kew is known as one of the most prestigious suburbs in Melbourne with many residences attracting the highest resale values in the state.
For places to eat, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes on High St. and nearby the Kew Junction offering all sorts of cuisines from Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Italian and Modern Australian dishes.
Also around this area are medical facilities like dental clinics, medical doctors, psychologists and physiologists.
Kew is home to some of Melbourne’s top private schools such as the Sacred Heart Primary School, Carey Baptist Grammar School, Genazzano FCJ College and Xavier College. At the same time, beautiful parklands and gardens are scattered throughout the suburb.
Commuting is convenient through tram routes passing through the suburb, while the City, Lilydale and Belgrave trains are accessible through the nearby Hawthorn and Glenferrie Stations.
