History of Joondalup

Joondalup gets its name from Lake Joondalup. The name is a Noongar word, and it was first recorded in 1837. It may either mean "place of a creature that can only move backwards" or "place of whiteness or glistening". Massive development started in the area after 1960 when several businesses and houses were established in the region. Today, it is the leading regional hub for northern Perth.
