Find us online

Physio Engadine is (from our research) one of the most common searches our patient's use to find us, followed by Physiotherapist Engadine and interestingly, Physiotherapy Engadine. Patients often search us by suburb first, however, and as a result, some other typical searches include Engadine Physio, Engadine Physiotherapist and or Engadine Physiotherapy. Though not a direct variation to the two above, a broader approach is often taken with a search like; physio near me, or if a practice is more intended then physiotherapy near me is quite often the search. We have found that depending on the demographics the use of the word 'in' features quite heavily, and so we'll often see Physio in Engadine, Physiotherapist in Engadine and Physiotherapy in Engadine as common phrases. In the end, we do our best to be as visible and accessible for our patients in and around our local area as possible.

Engadine profile

Engadine is a suburb in the southern metropolitan area of Sydney, New South Wales. It is located 33 kilometres away from the Sydney CBD and is in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire.

The suburb has a land area of 9 km2, and it is home to 17,375 residents, based on the 2016 census. Engadine’s neighbouring suburbs are Woronora Heights, Woronora, Loftus, Lucas Heights, Yarrawarrah, Holsworthy and Heathcote.

History of Engadine

In 1879, the suburb was initially reserved for a national park, but Charles McAlister acquired it in 1890. McAlister’s family renamed their estate as “Engadine” after Engadin Valley in Switzerland. The suburb was said to be “reminiscent” of the valley and hills in Engadin.

Around early the 1900s, McAlister subdivided his land and lived there for a few years before moving to another suburb.

From land for grazing, Engadine became a destination for camping and day-trips to residents from the inner-Syndey suburbs. The opening of a railway station in the suburb in 1920, paved the way for many people, mostly ex-soldiers of World War I, to settle in Engadine. This explains why several streets in the suburb are named related to the war, like Anzac, Amiens, Tobruk and Bullecourt.

In the following years, several establishments opened in Engadine such as the post office (1927) and a school (1932). By the 1960s, Engadine became a residential area with the remaining land parcels being developed in the 1990s.
