Known as a significant residential and commercial district in the lower north shore of Sydney, Chatswood is a suburb located 10 kilometres north of Sydney CBD. It covers an area of 2.9 km2 and is home to 24, 913 people which consist of 11,786 male and 13,127 females as recorded in the 2016 Australian census. History of Chatswood

Famous for its wooded area, Chatswood's first inhabitants were the Cammeraygal people who stayed for at least 50,000 years before the Europeans arrived.

Chatswood derives its name from Charlotte Harnett, wife of Richard Harnett, who was the Mayor of Willoughby back in 1870. Richard gave her the nickname 'Chattie' and eventually named the place Chatswood (Chattie's Wood) to her.

Its first residential district was established in 1876. It was followed by the establishment of the North Shore railway line in 1890. The suburb's development continued with the opening of Harbour Bridge in 1942. It became easily accessible in 1900 with public transportation.

Chatswood was declared as a 'Town Centre' in 1983 and became a city in 1989.
