Though not a direct variation to the two above, a broader approach is often taken with a search like; physio near me, or if a practice is more intended then physiotherapy near me is quite often the search. History of Williamstown

Prior to the colonial settlement of the Europeans, Williamstown was inhabited by Indigenous Australians, particularly the Yalukit-Willam clan. The clan called the area “koort-boork-boork, which literally means “She-oak, She-oak, many”.

In 1803, it was Acting-Lieutenant Chares Robbins who was the first European to arrive in Williamstown. Five years later, the mouth of the Yarra River was inspected by a party headed by Australian explorer and entrepreneur John Batman, who recognized the potential of the area for settlement.

In the following years, Williamstown became an essential part of the new colony with the first streets being laid out in 1837. In the same year, the first land sales in Williamstown took place, and a ferry service between the suburb to Melbourne was established.

The Victorian gold rush in the 1850s resulted in the phenomenal growth of the settlement as many gold seekers began to arrive in the area.

On 1 March 1850, Williamtown’s first Post Office was opened. Four years later, the country’s first telegraph line began operating between Melbourne and Williamstown. By 1858, there were already 17 hotels operating in the area and then grew to 26 in 1864. Williamstown also became a major cargo port of the state in 1870 and progress continued until today.
