Find us online

Physio West End is (from our research) one of the most common searches our patient's use to find us, followed by Physiotherapist West End and interestingly, Physiotherapy West End. Patients often search us by suburb first, however, and as a result, some other typical searches include West End Physio, West End Physiotherapist and or West End Physiotherapy. Though not a direct variation to the two above, a broader approach is often taken with a search like; physio near me, or if a practice is more intended then physiotherapy near me is quite often the search. We have found that depending on the demographics the use of the word 'in' features quite heavily, and so we'll often see Physio in West End, Physiotherapist in West End and Physiotherapy in West End as common phrases. In the end, we do our best to be as visible and accessible for our patients in and around our local area as possible.

West End profile

West End is an inner southern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland. It is located less than a kilometre away from the CBD. The suburb has a total land area of 2.3 km2 and has a population of 9,474, according to the 2016 census.

The suburbs surrounding West End are Auchenflower, Milton, South Brisbane, Toowong, Highgate Hill and St. Lucia.

History of West End

Before the arrival of the European settlers, there was already an aboriginal camp in the area. During that time, the riverbank in West End was covered with impenetrable rain forest.

West End’s aboriginal name is “Kurilpa”, means “place of the water rat”, as there were large numbers of bush rats and fawn-footed melomys in the area.

When the Europeans arrived, they renamed the suburb as West End after West End of London. The settlers utilised the land’s fertile soil for farming and orchards. There was also an industrial development in West End, particularly along Montague Road.

By 1875, three schools were already operating in West End, and the orchards and farmlands were subdivided into suburban allotments.

In 1885, West End became one of the first suburbs of Brisbane to be serviced by a tram line. The first trams were horse-drawn before the line was electrified and extended in 1897.

The following decades, a local library, churches were established in West End.

Facilities Around West End

As West End is undergoing urban renewal, most factories on Montague Road are now being sold to be developed as up-scale waterfront apartments.

The main commercial area in the suburb is along Boundary Street. A strip of cafes and restaurants are found in this area along with ethnic and organic grocery stores.

The Davies Park Markets, one of the largest farmer’s markets in Greater Brisbane, takes place every Saturday along Montague Road and Jane Street. Fresh produce, healthy eats and live music events are found here.

Several galleries are located in West End, and there’s also an artist-run initiative to showcase the works of local artists.

The West End State school is a government primary school (Prep to year 6), and there is a child care centre near the suburb’s border with High gate Hill. While there is no secondary school in West End, there is the nearby Brisbane State Highschool in the neighbouring suburb of South Brisbane.

Commuting is easy around West End because it is well-serviced by buses and ferries.

Orleigh Park

This peaceful parkland is located at the far end of Montague Street at the Brisbane riverbank. It has several play areas for children and facilities for BBQ and picnics.
