Q&A with Connor McKay

What made you decide to become a physiotherapist?

As a Professional Athlete, I have spent much of my life seeing Physiotherapists. For years I was unimpressed with the old model of treating multiple people at once and wanted to make a real difference. Incorporating gym-based rehab, biomechanics and training programs has helped me change how people view physiotherapy.

What do you love most about your job?

Being able to keep people doing what they love and working around injuries. No one likes to be told "you have to stop exercising" and I take pleasure in making sure that I never have to say those words.

Why should a new patient decide to choose you?

I believe knowing your strengths & weaknesses is essential as a practitioner. As a patient, you will appreciate coming to someone who can treat you well in the areas they know, and aren't too proud to refer you elsewhere if you can be treated better!

What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?

I am also a Professional Triathlete which takes up a lot of my spare time. Travelling the world to race in different destinations is something I really enjoy and whilst being my other form of "work", I certainly never get bored!

What do you enjoy about Townsville and the community?

I grew up in Townsville and attended school & university here, and it's great to be in a place that isn't small, but you still know everyone. Everyone is happy to help when you need something, and you can always go to the right person quickly in a small place like Townsville.

Q&A with Stent Card

What made you decide to become a physiotherapist?

Enjoying training, exercise and the human anatomy in addition to having a few injuries myself, lead to me seeing what physiotherapists do. Understanding that as a physio, you can have a job where you help people be physically active linked well with my passions.

What do you love most about your job?

Being able to work with people to improve their physical capability. Whether that be sporting or just day to day, seeing someone who is limited or not reaching their full potential due to injury or pain reach their goals is a nice feeling.

Why should a new patient decide to choose you?

The focus is on keeping you as physically active as possible. Undertaking numerous extra courses and further study with my Masters in Sports Phyiotherapy, you can be sure that while taking a patient centred approach to your care, it will involve the latest up to date information and clinical experience to help achieve your long term goal.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?

I enjoy the outdoors and exploring everything Townsville and QLD has to offer. Staying physically active myself, whether it be exercising the dog, running, mountain bike riding or in the gym, is a large factor in my life.

What do you enjoy about Townsville and the community?

Being active myself, I enjoy working in a clinic where everyone has placed priority and focus on improving themselves.

Q&A with Lachlan Skinner

What made you decide to become a physiotherapist?

As a former competitive tennis player, I had several injuries related to the sport, so in my youth I would often see my local physiotherapist in Charters Towers for treatment and management of these injuries. I was immediately interested by the profession and could see myself doing it as a career. This is what initially drove me to study physiotherapy.

What do you love most about your job?

I think the aspect of my job I enjoy the most is assisting people in a place and time where their quality of life is being affected by pain and injury. Having the ability to educate and manage people through these challenging periods is extremely rewarding.

Why should a new patient decide to choose you?

As a practitioner I think my strengths are a willingness to listen and put myself in the patients shoes, as well as ensuring the treatments I am providing are evidence based and individualised to the person in front of me.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?

When I'm not working I enjoy going to the gym, taking long walks on the beach and playing guitar. I also enjoy listening to music, podcasts and video games from time to time. Socialising with friends is also something I think is important.

What do you enjoy about Townsville and the community?

I live in North Ward, which is in Townsville City. I really enjoy the location as its close to the beach, in close vicinity to work and close to heaps of great restaurants.

Elizabeth Hore

Elizabeth Hore or "Lizzy" as she would prefer is a Townsville local who has recently joined The Physio Movement team. She has spent the past year in rural Charters Towers expanding her knowledge base and gaining experience in all things Physiotherapy. After gaining insight into Physiotherapy as a whole, Lizzy is eager to conduct further studies and follow her passions into Women’s Health and NDIS.

Lizzy believes that physical well-being is strongly related to mental well-being. So this is incorporated when necessary, into her treatments to ensure you can be the healthiest version of yourself without all those draining pains and limitations.

Find us online

Physio Townsville is (from our research) one of the most common searches our patient's use to find us, followed by Physiotherapist Townsville and interestingly, Physiotherapy Townsville. Patients often search us by suburb first, however, and as a result, some other typical searches include Townsville Physio, Townsville Physiotherapist and or Townsville Physiotherapy. Though not a direct variation to the two above, a broader approach is often taken with a search like; physio near me, or if a practice is more intended then physiotherapy near me is quite often the search. We have found that depending on the demographics the use of the word 'in' features quite heavily, and so we'll often see Physio in Townsville, Physiotherapist in Townsville and Physiotherapy in Townsville as common phrases. In the end, we do our best to be as visible and accessible for our patients in and around our local area as possible.
