History of South Yarra

Several decades ago, the South Yarra region was inhabited by the Wurundieri tribe. In the 1830s the European settlers came and settled in the area. In the 1840s, several wealthy citizens from Melbourne came to the region and used it as a suburban retreat. Many big houses were built in the area, and it maintained its upper-class reputation. In the present times, South Yarra is one of the most populated suburbs of the region with several apartment buildings and apartments around South Yarra Railway station. This is one of the most prosperous suburbs of the area.
