Robina is a family-friendly suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland. It has a total land area of 15.0 km2 and is bordered by the suburbs: Merrimac, Clear Island Waters, Mermaid Waters, Mudgeeraba, Burleigh Waters, Reedy Creek and Varsity Lakes.

History of Robina

The development of Robina began in 1980 when Singaporean real estate developer Robin Loh and local property developer Arthur Earle purchased land that was previously used for grazing. This area is what would become the suburb of Robina.

The name of the suburb is a combination of “Robin” (Loh’s given name) and “a” (for Arthur).

Loh formed Robina Land Corporation, where urban designers Moshe Safdie and Robert Lamb Hart spearheaded the development of the suburb into a residential and commercial hub.

Ten years after the area was acquired and developed, the Robina State School opened on 29 January 1990, followed by a state high school six years after.

Today, Robina is one of Gold Coast’s fastest-growing suburbs and is recognised as one of the country’s most successful planned communities.

Facilities Around Robina

A master-planned suburb, Robina has peaceful residential areas, commercial facilities, beautiful parks and excellent schools.

The Robina Town Centre, which is the second-largest shopping centre in the state, features significant supermarkets such as Woolworths, Coles, Big W department store and a two-storey Borders Book Store. Cinemas, restaurants and other recreation facilities are also found here.

One of the two public hospitals in the Gold Coast, the Robina Hospital, is located in the suburb. There is also a nearby health precinct that houses community and sub-acute services.

Robina has a government primary and a government secondary school, while the Australian Industry Trade College and Bond University are also located in the suburb.

For transport, Robina has three major arterial roads--the Pacific Motorway, Robina Parkway and Bermuda Street, that connect the suburb to the other areas of the Gold Coast. There are two bus stations operating in Robina and a railway station.
