History of North Ryde

According to historical accounts, North Ryde got its name after the first public school of the district, opened on 25 January 1878.

Initially, the suburb was mostly a farming area until 1897, when North Ryde was sold to a Catholic parish. The entire area between Lane Cove Rivers and Parramatta was initially inhabited by the Aboriginal Wallumatta people, a group of Indigenous Australians.
