Physio North Melbourne is (from our research) one of the most common searches our patient's use to find us, followed by Physiotherapist North Melbourne and interestingly, Physiotherapy North Melbourne. Patients often search us by suburb first, however, and as a result, some other typical searches include North Melbourne Physio, North Melbourne Physiotherapist and or North Melbourne Physiotherapy. Though not a direct variation to the two above, a broader approach is often taken with a search like; physio near me, or if a practice is more intended then physiotherapy near me is quite often the search. We have found that depending on the demographics the use of the word 'in' features quite heavily, and so we'll often see Physio in North Melbourne, Physiotherapist in North Melbourne and Physiotherapy in North Melbourne as common phrases. In the end, we do our best to be as visible and accessible for our patients in and around our local area as possible.
An inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, North Melbourne is located 2 kilometres away from the city’s CBD. It is under the local government area of the City of Melbourne.
The total land area of North Melbourne is 2.4km2, and it is home to 14,940 residents, according to the 2016 census. It is bounded by the suburbs of Flemington, Parkville, Kensington, Carlton, and West Melbourne.
North Melbourne was established in the 1850s and was formerly called Hotham, named after the Governor of Victoria, Charles Hotham. It is one of the towns in Victoria to be first granted Municipal status by the government.
In 1860, the Hotham Post Office was established, and a year after, the population of the suburb was already over 7,000. It was also during this time when the locals formed the Hotham Football Club, which is today known as the North Melbourne Kangaroos.
On 26 Aug 1887, the place was renamed North Melbourne when the North Melbourne Town Hall and the Metropolitan Meat Market came to completion. In the following years, trams began to operate in the area.
During the 1930s, the government proposed large housing developments due to overcrowding, which were completed in the 1960s.
The gentrification of North Melbourne continues until today while maintaining the Victorian architecture and older commercial and industrial areas in the suburb. North Melbourne’s main retail precinct is located at Errol Street, around the suburb’s old town hall. A number of cafes and boutiques are found in this area.
Inside North Melbourne, there are a couple of schools like the North Melbourne Primary, St. Michael’s Primary School and St. Aloysius College. At the same time, the University of Melbourne is just 1 kilometre northeast of the suburb. Also along the northeast border of North Melbourne are major medical facilities such as The Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital.
The suburb has a recreation centre that has a gym, pool and fitness classes. It is also the home to the North Melbourne Football Club and Fencing Victoria. To get around North Melbourne, the suburb is served by two railway stations: Flemington Bridge and Macaulay, three tram routes and several bus routes.
Arts House - Melbourne Fringe Festival
The longest-running multi-arts festival in Victoria, the Melbourne Fringe celebrates cultural democracy and art. The festival, which is located in various venues, including Arts House in North Melbourne, provides space for artistic self-expression and has featured thousands from every discipline for decades.
Royal Park
Right outside the suburb is Royal Park, Melbourne’s largest inner-city park. Various sporting facilities (North Park Tennis Club, Royal Park Golf Course, football and soccer ovals) are found here. The park also has cycling and walking paths and is home to several native animals.
