Q&A with Michael Demosthenous

What made you decide to become a physiotherapist?

I've always had a keen interest in sports injuries and prevention, and I'm passionate about helping people reach their health, fitness and sporting goals. I grew up playing various sports and had some bad experiences with injuries myself, so I wanted to help others get back to what they love doing and function at their highest levels.

What do you love most about your job?

The thing I love most about my job is learning from my clients. Everyone is so different, from their attitudes and beliefs to their lived experiences, and so just listening to my clients provides me with so much knowledge and enables me to better my craft.

Why should a new patient decide to choose you?

I believe in honesty and equality, and I treat my clients exactly as I would treat my friends or family. I tell it how it is, and I aim to empower my clients for them to be able to self-manage their conditions or problems to their full potential.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?

In my spare time, I love playing sports with my friends and going to the gym to keep myself fit and healthy. This helps because I'm also a big foodie, so it maintains a good balance in my life. Other things I enjoy are music, fashion and travelling.

What do you enjoy about Moorebank and the community?

Chipping Norton is where I grew up and went to school, and it hasn't changed much since. I lived there for 15 years, and I loved it because it's a very friendly and family-orientated neighbourhood. All the locals know each other and are quick to lend a helping hand.

Richard Kim

Richard Kim is the Principal Physiotherapist at Activ Therapy, with more than ten years of experience working in private practice. Richard has always been passionate about physiotherapy and now manages a large team across Western Sydney and beyond.

As a clinician, Richard focuses on identifying motor pattern dysfunction and biomechanical imbalances as a way to find the root cause of pain. Richard works with many sporting and fitness organisations, providing support and guidance to these teams.

His post-graduate training includes:

Richard is currently training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a purple belt and plays basketball and soccer on the weekends.

Richard speaks both Korean and English fluently, providing consultations for those that require it in both languages.

Q&A with Richard Kim

What made you decide to become a physiotherapist?

I initially chose physiotherapy because I loved sports and I didn't want to work in an office! Once I began studying, I realised there was much more to physiotherapy, however, I still enjoy the connection to sports and the human body.

What do you love most about your job?

I enjoy meeting and working with different people with a range of different problems and conditions. I find the most satisfaction from overcoming the challenge of determing the underlying causes of pain, dysfunction and injury.

Why should a new patient decide to choose you?

Each person and problem is unique, but what my focus is as a therapist is to find out the why. If you have had back pain for years, the scans may say that there are some joint or disc changes, but I look to understand why those changes occurred by assessing the biomechanics of the human body.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?

Although it's a cliche my passions are spending time with my wife and my daughter as well as participating in brazilian jiu jitsu and soccer several days a week. I don't seem to have time for much else.

Find us online

Physio Moorebank is (from our research) one of the most common searches our patient's use to find us, followed by Physiotherapist Moorebank and interestingly, Physiotherapy Moorebank. Patients often search us by suburb first, however, and as a result, some other typical searches include Moorebank Physio, Moorebank Physiotherapist and or Moorebank Physiotherapy. Though not a direct variation to the two above, a broader approach is often taken with a search like; physio near me, or if a practice is more intended then physiotherapy near me is quite often the search. We have found that depending on the demographics the use of the word 'in' features quite heavily, and so we'll often see Physio in Moorebank, Physiotherapist in Moorebank and Physiotherapy in Moorebank as common phrases. In the end, we do our best to be as visible and accessible for our patients in and around our local area as possible.
