History of Margaret River

In earlier days, the surrounding area of Margaret River was known for agricultural production and hardwood timber. The town got its name after the river of the same name, which in turn, is considered to have received its name from Margaret Whicher. The Busselton to Margaret River Railway was opened in the early 1920s. The Margaret River to Flinders Bay line was built in 1925.

Boranup Karri Forest
