Q&A with Sam Rice

What made you decide to become a physiotherapist?

Inspired by the physio who helped me return to sport after an ankle injury when I was in Grade 5. He was able to support me in tough times and to help me to get back to doing what I love - playing sport. I had always wanted to do the same for others one day and here we are.

What do you love most about your job?

Helping my lovely clients. I especially enjoy it when the hard work pays off and my clients return to sport, work or lifting their grandkids again. Being injured or in pain isn't fun, but we can help you out of it.

Why should a new patient decide to choose you?

We are here to help you to achieve what is most meaningful for you. Injuries are all very different and require different approaches to achieve the best results according to the injury and patient's preferences. We ensure that our treatment plans are tailored for you.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?

When not working I love keeping fit and spending time with my friends and family. I always compete in a few open water swims over the summer. In the winter you would be more likely to find me on the golf course or in the gym.

What do you enjoy about Lara and the community?

There is such a strong community feel in Lara. I grew up in the city but it's communities like this that I prefer to work and live in because the social connections are so strong.

Patients often search us by suburb first, however, and as a result, some other typical searches include Lara Physio, Lara Physiotherapist and or Lara Physiotherapy. Though not a direct variation to the two above, a broader approach is often taken with a search like; physio near me, or if a practice is more intended then physiotherapy near me is quite often the search. General FAQs

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the medical approach to restore the movements of your bones and limbs. It’s one of the departments of the medical science that people think is related to only and only severe injuries. To be truthful, Physiotherapy is a vast subject that includes the study of the entire human body and its proper movements.

It’s one of the holistic services that will have a detailed look at your lifestyle. Sometimes, the patients are engaged in their treatment through exercises and meditation.

Healthcare professionals who carry out the process of physiotherapy are known as physiotherapists. They are trained with either bachelors or master’s degree in physiotherapy. With a high level of expertise in neurological, musculoskeletal, and other parts of the body, they can help you return to your everyday lifestyle.

Some tasks performed by the physiotherapists are:

Ignoring muscle pain is common within folks. With time, this minor pain can become more problematic. So, it’s recommended to visit a physiotherapist before the condition worsens. Their expertise can help you manage even acute conditions and improve your physical performance.

Depending on your condition, you will be recommended manual therapy, electric nerve stimulation, acupuncture, and much more. One thing you should keep in mind is that different physiotherapists deal with different conditions. If it’s something specialised, it’s better to know the area of expertise of your physiotherapist.

History of Lara

On 16 December 1824, explorers Hamilton Hume and former Royal Navy Captain William Hovell arrived at Lara, believing that they reached Westernport Bay. At this time, the suburb had only a few farms.

The first railway that ran through the town was inaugurated in 1857 along with the local railway station. Lara’s (then Duck Ponds) first Post Office was opened on 1 March 1858 and with the population steadily growing to a few hundred by 1890. By the 1890’s Lara already had facilities such as schools and churches, but it was only in 1947 when the municipal water supply was completed.
