Juliana Portolesi

Hi, I'm Juliana Portolesi, and I am the director and lead physiotherapist at Centred Ground Physiotherapy. Graduating from physiotherapy in 2005, I have extensive experience in managing most musculoskeletal issues, as well as sporting injuries, acute and chronic pain. I also have extensive experience in Iyengar Yoga and bring that intense body awareness to my physiotherapy practice.

My further post-graduate training includes:

As a yoga instructor and physiotherapist, I have always placed a lot of emphasis on maintaining a healthy body. Over the years, I have realised that just as important, is a healthy mind. Here at Centred Ground, we help you achieve both, through a holistic approach to healthcare.

Q&A with Juliana Portolesi

What made you decide to become a physiotherapist?

At school I was a science nerd, but also loved all things health and wellbeing and being around people. When I was deciding what to study at uni, I figured engineering would allow me to use my love of science, but was lacking in the people element. But Physiotherapy was like the combination of all! Perfect!

What do you love most about your job?

The human body amazes me, and people amaze me. I love that I get to educate and inspire good health, great movement and positive changes in people. We're a never ending puzzle - there's always something more to learn or understand. And I love that moment when the penny drops for someone & they're able to move pain-free and return to the things they love.

Why should a new patient decide to choose you?

Because I'm determined to figure out what's going on for someone when they present with pain or restriction or a limit to their function and support them to a better state. I want to see my patients get better, and then, in the nicest possible way, not see them again.

What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?

I love practicing yoga, walking at the beach or in the hills, listening to music and dancing like a crazy person around the house. Reading- though my attention span has dwindled! And cooking anything and everything. The latest- sourdough.

What do you enjoy about Bowden and the community?

Bowden is a lively little community in Adelaide. It's like it's own mini-city, completely walkable to everything you need. And people are always out and about and saying hello. There's warmth and vibrancy in Bowden.

Find us online

Physio Bowden is (from our research) one of the most common searches our patient's use to find us, followed by Physiotherapist Bowden and interestingly, Physiotherapy Bowden. Patients often search us by suburb first, however, and as a result, some other typical searches include Bowden Physio, Bowden Physiotherapist and or Bowden Physiotherapy. Though not a direct variation to the two above, a broader approach is often taken with a search like; physio near me, or if a practice is more intended then physiotherapy near me is quite often the search. We have found that depending on the demographics the use of the word 'in' features quite heavily, and so we'll often see Physio in Bowden, Physiotherapist in Bowden and Physiotherapy in Bowden as common phrases. In the end, we do our best to be as visible and accessible for our patients in and around our local area as possible.
