Michael Ajaka graduated from the University of Sydney in 2015, with a Masters of Physiotherapy. He is unbelievably passionate about the physio industry - with an unbeatable work ethic. He is a sports enthusiast, with a strong understanding of the difficulties of managing sporting injuries.
What made you decide to become a physiotherapist?
I have been involved in the fitness and health industry from a young age. My passion stemmed from being on the other side of the ropes, as a physio patient whilst competing as a professional swimmer. This experience lead me to be curious and interested in physiotherapy and how the body works.
Applying the same dedication and hard work that I did to swimming, I believe that the key to success as a physiotherapist is hard work, perseverance and loving what you do.
What do you love most about your job?
Being a physiotherapist has always been my dream career. I have worked at a range of practices and eventually opened my own.
Throughout the years, I have come across a countless range of conditions. I have gained so much knowledge and continue to hone my skills and treatment methods.
Every client who walks through the door is different, and that's what I love about my job. They may have the same condition and diagnosis. However, the treatment method could be very different. I have to adapt to various clients and prescribe treatment plan according to their needs.
The process of problem-solving keeps me continually thinking, and it is just not mindlessly thinking "I have treated this before, and I will do the same thing". I also love my job because I get to meet a lot of different people.
I enjoy building rapport with clients and get to know them. The interaction between myself and the clients is one of the biggest reason for me to come into work. I believe that if I respect and care for them, they will receive greater outcome and experience through physiotherapy.
Why should a new patient decide to choose you?
A new patient should choose our services and clinic for many reasons, including our solid evidence-based treatments and assessments, fully furnished gymnasium and our private closed-door treatment rooms. But also because we care, we care about helping you and getting you to leap out of our services.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?
Outside of our clinical hours, I enjoy sitting in my backyard reading new evidence-based papers on treatments, assessments and more. Other then this, due to my previous professional swimming, I have always enjoyed training and exercising. Hence going to the gym to exercise is something I continue to do.
